Abstract and Keywords

Community-based dance has surely reached its zenith in popularity. Globally, it seems that people are recognizing its potential to improve their feelings of positive health and wellbeing. Both private initiatives and publicly funded ventures are providing opportunities for people of all ages to try various forms of dance outwith the formal health contexts or educational system. This part takes the reader on a cultural journey, exploring how dance can be used as a positive influence among widely disparate groups of dancers. Whether the contexts relate to therapy groups or more open community dance settings, the effect of participation is viewed in terms of the perceived wellbeing which the dancers experience.
