This volume was the result of many years of concerted effort by a large group of people, most notably the authors, who were united in their effort to make this Handbook serve not only as an introduction, but also as a significant event in the field, advancing debates on many fronts. The editors would like to thank the authors for all their efforts and, of course, for their patience in some cases and persistence in others. Seth Lazar would also like to thank the School of Philosophy, in the Research School of Social Sciences at the Australian National University, for providing the ideal environment in which to develop this project—as well as several models of how to efficiently edit an Oxford Handbook. His work on this volume was supported by the Australian Research Council’s Discovery Early Career Award, DE130100811. Helen Frowe would like to thank the Department of Philosophy at the University of Stockholm. Her work on this volume was supported by a Wallenberg Academy Fellowship from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study. (p. xii)
