Abstract and Keywords

In this article I provide a broad overview of the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) first providing key definitions, then summarizing some important reasons that all faculty should both do it and use it , and then outlining basic steps and best practices in conducting SoTl. There is a sizable literature in the general area of SoTL and within the field of psychology in particular. The research can help answer important pedagogical questions and contribute to evidence-based teaching and increased student learning. To ensure and foster robust SoTL, I also highlight some new benchmarks for conducting pedagogical research.
