Abstract and Keywords

This chapter examines gesture in the use of mobile media and computing devices. It shows how media technologies layer bodily techniques of information access and manipulation in order to cultivate and train the bodies of their users. Taking a choreographic approach, it highlights the role of mobile media, particularly smartphones, in expanding users’ physical vocabularies for operating digital media. It further suggests that computational gestures are integral to literacy and rhetoric in the domain of computing.
