Abstract and Keywords
This chapter serves as the introductory chapter for the Oxford Handbook of Cognitive Science, beginning with a brief history and discussion of the goals of the cognitive science enterprise. The chapters included in the handbook are then discussed briefly. Other facets of cognitive science not represented by chapters are then discussed. Finally, likely future directions for cognitive science research are described. This handbook is intended to facilitate the progress of students who will determine the future of cognitive science. Its chapters provide a relatively concise introduction to the present achievements of cognitive science, supplemented by references to additional suggested readings.
