Abstract and Keywords

This chapter reviews the factors that influence the comprehension messages that are conveyed in the course of social communication, focusing on both informal conversation and the information conveyed in the media (newspapers and advertisements. It also considers the implications of these comprehension processes for both memory of the information and judgments based on it. The modality of the information, the manner in which it is conveyed, and the social context in which it occurs are discussed.
