Abstract and Keywords
This chapter introduces some key concepts of spectral audio processing and their application in interactive audio and sound design. Using a mostly nonmathematical approach, the principal elements of sound manipulation in the frequency domain are explored. Basic programming examples, which have an emphasis on readability, are given in the Python language, helping to reinforce the ideas in the text. The chapter is completed with a tour of the most common spectral audio transformations, given as ready-to-deploy Csound instruments.

Victor Lazzarini is a graduate from University of Campinas in Brazil (BMus) and the University of Nottingham in England (AMusD). He joined the NUI Maynooth in 1998, where he is currently a Senior Lecturer in Music. His research has been devoted to the areas of audio signal processing and music programming languages.
