Abstract and Keywords

This Introduction explains how this book came about. The book is an outgrowth of an research initiative called the Science and Ecology of Early Development (SEED), in which a research agenda was sought that would examine the impact of poverty on child development and health outcomes, and identify the most pressing scientific issues involving poverty and child development, and to offer new ideas and questions that would lead to the development of a “new science” of research. The Introduction then outlines the various parts of this book in detail, and the analysis contained therein.

Keywords: SEED, child development, health outcomes, scientific issues, new science
