Abstract and Keywords

This chapter focuses on how and why recruiter attributes can influence the recruitment experience. The impact recruiters have on applicant decisions is still being debated in the literature, and no firm conclusions can be drawn based on previous research and current studies. This chapter discusses why after over 50 years of research on applicant attraction we still have inconclusive results as to the importance of the recruiter in recruitment outcomes. This chapter also discusses recruiter training, the lack of recruiter training research, and the impact that training may have on organizations’ ability to attract a diverse applicant pool. Future research questions are posed to help direct future contributions to the recruiter effects literature.
