Abstract and Keywords

This article summarizes the development of the scholarship on nation and nationalism. It explains the gender blindness of the literature and then presents the relevant contributions of feminists on women and the nation and women’s integration in modern nationhood. The article discusses the interrelatedness of national and gendered identities at the symbolic level and the politicization of the lives of women in both the public and private spheres. It ends with a study of the connection between religion, violence, and nationalism and introduces the recent “new Arab Nationalism.”
