Abstract and Keywords

This article takes a look at the changes in feminist thinking. It outlines the competing feminist theories, and studies the transition from a monolithic and patriarchal conception of the state to a differentiated and gendered conception of the state. The article then explains how gender functions within the state and how the state represents gender relations within society. Finally, it also considers feminist engagement with the state, which includes the venues, strategies, orientation, and results of the interaction.
