Abstract and Keywords

This chapter uses journal recollections from the lead author, as he worked with Palestinians leading up to the 1992 Oslo Peace Accords, to propose five steps toward peace, as supported by positive organizational scholarship (POS). The authors propose that POS is informed by and informs successful peace processes by noting the shift in identity from a victim or victimizer to a peacemaker; a change from a view of power as coercive power to a view of power as holistic; a shift in the view that relationships are historically fixed and immovable to a sense that relationships are complex and fluid; a dialectic view of the peace process, in which compromise is the best possible outcome to a dialogic model, and in which new and creative solutions can be envisioned; and the change from goal-oriented outcomes, in which objectives must be achieved, to a commitment to a process that is ongoing and honored. The conclusion offers general and specific research questions related to peace processes that could guide future research.
