Abstract and Keywords

This chapter examines the linkages between positive organizational scholarship (POS) and social movements scholarship. Positive organizational scholarship is interested in prosocial and citizen behavior as well as corporate responsibility. Social movements can influence those within formal organizations to engage in prosocial and citizen behavior and can be an important force in driving corporate social responsibility. Activists bring social movement agendas into the formal organizations they engage in during their everyday lives, including their workplace. This chapter is based upon a review of the social movement literature and the author’s multimethod empirical research on faculty efforts to increase institutional diversity as a case study of insider activism.
