Abstract and Keywords

The provinces of Gilan and Mazandaran, to the south of the Caspian Sea, as well as the immediate environs of the capital, Tehran, are home to a large number of important sites including Qeytarieh, Rayy, Khorvin, Kaluraz, and Marlik. This chapter surveys the material evidence, principally ceramics, glyptic, and metal finds, from this region. Burial patterns are discussed and the region’s links to sites further south, such as Tepe Sialk, are investigated. The relationship between these archaeological assemblages and the population dynamics of the Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages is treated as well.
