Abstract and Keywords

Archaeological evidence from Deh Luran (Ali Kosh, Tepe Tula’i), Susiana (Chogha Sefid, Chogha Bonut, Chogha Mish), and the Shushtar region dating to c.5500–3900 BC is reviewed. The environmental setting of the major sites is discussed and emphasis is placed on the diverse ceramic assemblages found at sites throughout the area. The development of irrigation and agriculture is emphasized. Evidence of emerging social differentiation is also treated.
