Abstract and Keywords

This chapter focuses particularly on the evidence from Hasanlu, Dinkha Tepe, Geoy Tepe and Kordlar Tepe in Iranian Azerbaijan. The various regional ceramic assemblages are defined and their chronologies discussed. Terminological difficulties surrounding the use of site-based and more general chronologies are investigated. Architecture, ceramics and mortuary evidence are all reviewed. The historically attested groups of greatest importance, for example, the Assyrians, Urartians, and Manneans, are treated and the destruction layers at sites like Hasanlu are examined in light of the history of Assyrian and Urartian campaigns in the region.

Keywords: Hasanlu, Dinkha Tepe, Geoy Tepe, Kordlar Tepe, Azerbaijan, Assyrians, Urartians, Manneans
