Abstract and Keywords

This chapter treats both civil and military administration in Sasanian Iran. The role of stamp seals and the practice of sealing clay balls (bullae) on official documents by administrators are emphasized. The various ranks of civil and military administrators, their fiscal responsibilities, and their jurisdictions are all treated. The nature of the evidence and its relationship to Sasanian legal institutions are reviewed.
