Dedication
(p. v) This volume is dedicated to Gabriel Moser, who died in April 2011 shortly after completing work on his chapter for the handbook. Moser was an important figure in environmental psychology, particularly in Europe, where he was the first professor of environmental psychology in France. He had a direct influence in training and supporting young researchers and new groups in environmental psychology in many countries. In addition, he strengthened the institutional framework for environmental psychology, particularly through his efforts on behalf of the International Association for People-Environment Studies, of which he was president from 2004 to 2008. His many books and papers, which emphasized the urban environment, will have a lasting impact on the field and his warmth and generosity will be remembered by the many colleagues who also consider themselves his friends.
