Abstract and Keywords
This chapter attempts to predict the future of social cognition research by evaluating trends in the topics published in the 1980s, the 1990s, and the 2000s. Topics were chosen from among those described in this volume—including, for example, various stages of information processing—and then related search terms were entered into PsycINFO. Results of these searches are discussed in conjunction with observations and predictions from various chapter authors. It appears that most of the topics covered in the current volume are growing in prominence in the field of social cognition, although there are some differences between trends in Social Cognition, which is aimed at a core audience, and PsycINFO as a whole, which encompasses journals appealing to a much wider audience. Some speculations are advanced regarding the future of the field.
