Abstract and Keywords

This paper discusses the various stages of Gurdwara Reform Movement leading to the formation of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and its legal recognition by the Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1925. The statutory provisions relating to its composition, jurisdiction, powers and functions along with its actual working are critically examined. It incorporates the data personally collected from the SGPC office as regards its budget, Gurdwaras, committees of Gurdwaras, educational, and other institutions.
