Abstract and Keywords

This chapter traces the development of Romano-British archaeology and examines the professional and academic frameworks within which practitioners operate in the early twenty-first century. In addition, the impacts of challenges, such as that posed by unrecorded metal detecting and financial austerity, are considered, along with potential opportunities, including the continuing rise of community archaeology and media interest in the Roman period.
