Abstract and Keywords

This chapter assesses the relationship between compounds and idioms, discussing the place and scope of idiomatology, and compounds as idiomatic expressions. Compounds represent a larger range of lexemes than is commonly and traditionally believed, and show quite a few features and properties that are characteristic of idiomatic expressions. As a matter of fact, they share with idiomatic expressions the ways in which they arise, their existence proper, and their interpretation.
