Abstract and Keywords

The chapter provides an overview of Systemic Functional Theory, a theory of language as meaning potential developed by Michael Halliday in the 1960s that has been extended ever since and applied in a variety of contexts across the globe. This chapter focuses in particular on the lexicogrammatical stratum as a meaning-making resource for creating and interpreting texts.
