Abstract and Keywords

Interprofessional geriatric teamwork in healthcare involves a diverse set of competencies and needed resources. Interprofessional teams are the international gold standard of healthcare for medically frail older adults. This chapter provides a broad overview of interprofessional teams as a specific form of healthcare. Within interprofessional teams, members develop a unified plan for patient assessment and treatment. Team members are considered colleagues who have both unique and overlapping skills to contribute to patient care and team functioning. This chapter reviews the empirical support for this team approach and describes the International Model of Healthcare Team Performance. We then discuss interprofessional team competencies and suggest resources for training and development.
