Abstract and Keywords

This chapter examines the transnational and diasporic links that connect refugees, asylum seekers, and other migrants from conflict across countries and continents. It first looks at the emergence of diasporas and transnationalism as key concepts in studies of forced migration and refugees. It then considers the role of forced migration in the formation of diasporas, along with refugee engagement in transnational activities in conflict settings. Finally, the chapter revisits the notion of ‘durable solutions’ for refugees, suggesting that transnationalism itself could be one such solution to address displacement.

Keywords: refugees, asylum seekers, migrants, conflict, diasporas, transnationalism, forced migration, displacement
