Abstract and Keywords

This chapter examines the many ways in which music contributed to the Georgian theatrical experience and illuminates the function of music, including incidental music. Musical trends and traditions are outlined, as is information about the working musician in the pit and the singing ‘stars’, house composers and other musical jobs in the theatre. The arrangement and direction of the orchestra is also considered, as well as its size and personnel.
