Abstract and Keywords

During the last two decades, questions relative to global change and warming have led to increasing interest in palaeoecology, palaeoclimatology, and land-use history. This general context appears to be particularly favourable to the place of wetland archaeology, with its key evidence and approaches, in creating new perspectives on our present-day changing world. This chapter discusses environmental archives and palaeoclimatic proxies; strategies and approaches in building palaeoclimatic records; and climatic determinism vs cultural dynamics.

Keywords: climate change, wetland archaeology, palaeoecology
