Abstract and Keywords

Building a speech corpus and exploiting it to answer phonetic and phonological research questions is a very time-consuming process. Many of the necessary steps in the corpus building process and the analysis stage can be facilitated with Praat scripts. Several applications showing how Praat scripting can be employed to support orthographic transcription, phonetic and prosodic annotation, querying, analysis, and preparation for distribution are presented and discussed in this chapter. In addition, the main concepts and basic elements of Praat’s scripting language are described and illustrated with simple examples.
