Abstract and Keywords

This chapter discusses Louis MacNeice's war poems. It first shows that the experience of wartime was an important element in all of MacNeice's war poetry, especially in his final collection, The Burning Perch. The chapter describes MacNeice's other poems – written during the War itself – as comprising a distinctive body of work that records and gives original shape to the pressures and complications of living in and through severe global conflict.

Keywords: Louis MacNeice, experience of wartime, Burning Perch, global conflict
