Abstract and Keywords

This chapter reviews some areas of research that are related to foreign policy, public opinion, and the media, first suggesting that although the public attitudes on foreign policy seem to be structured and reasonable, there are still some relevant controversies which influence it. Next, it takes a look at the research on public opinion rallies, the use of force, the media, elections, and audience costs. The final part of the chapter discusses practical future directions for research, and concludes that opportunities still exist for development in public opinion and foreign policy research, international relations and American politics literature, and public opinion and foreign policy literature.
