This chapter discusses political socialization and summarizes some of the primary research threads in the field, studying the civic orientations and political attitudes of American youths today in order to differentiate them from the previous generations. It then considers the transformative potential of new media, discussing the influence of biology and genetics on political behaviour and attitudes, and finally presents some directions for future research.
