Abstract and Keywords

This chapter discusses risk assessment and prospect theor, first defining and describing prospect theory and its contributions to literature in detail. It addresses the latest changes in the psychological literature on risk, and tries to combine the notions of emotion and affect into risk perception and management. The chapter also considers some opportunities for theoretical development, which include potential avenues of application to topics in public opinion research. It ends with a summary of the ways these lasting debates and controversies can help inform one's understanding of the processes of democratic governance and public opinion.
