Abstract and Keywords

This chapter illuminates methods of teaching improvisation and composition that the author has discovered and refined during more than three decades of choreographing and directing. Discovering and refining these methods has been a process fuelled by the author’s desire to evoke and manifest the whole being of each performer, to celebrate diversity, to honour subconscious realms, and to find coherence and connection amidst diversity. The chapter includes examples of writing by the author that is derived from and describes movement—of both the author and sometimes a collaborator.
