Abstract and Keywords
The way listeners and performers understand and experience music is inflected by what they know, that is, the stories they have been told. Restricting the field to stories about disability, this essay explores the effect on performers (in this case, the Mivos Quartet) of stories of experiences of disability in the lives of Dvořák, Smetana, and Martinů.
