Abstract and Keywords

One of the main reasons why some firms perform better than others is that they apply superior knowledge and can adapt more effectively to changing conditions. This means that they are better at what has come to be called ‘organizational learning’. Organizational learning refers to both the process of acquiring or generating new knowledge and to its outcome. This article focuses on the conditions for promoting organizational learning as a strategic resource. It first considers learning within firms and then turns to the role of partnership through alliances between firms. It concludes with implications for practice and future research needs.
