Abstract and Keywords
This articleexamines the key developments in the Levant during the Early Bronze Age. It traces the south Levantine routes towards urbanism in the earlier part of the Early Bronze Age and describes similar developments in the northern Levant in the middle part of the period. Archaeological analysis reveals disparity in terms of their ‘trajectory’ towards urban life in the eastern Mediterranean littoral. The article explains that while the high point of urban development in the southern Levant occured before2500 BCE, north Levantine urbanism occurred only during the second half of the millennium.
