This articledescribes the key developments in the Levant during the Neolithic Period. During this period, the people of the Levant began to live in sedentary communities and farm for the first time. Economic relationships gradually emerged in a fairly uniform manner across the region, and by the end of this period, a new way of life that combined economic and social factorshad surfacedthat provided a basis for subsequent developments eventually leading to urbanism. The article also discusses the history of research, regional geography, chronology, sedentary behaviour, society and belief, and subsistence economy in the Levant.
