Abstract and Keywords

As a form of elemental media, copper offers a prism through which to analyse and conceive the organization of contemporary geopolitics. Surveying the history of ‘copper modernity’ in Chile, the chapter considers the implications of copper in neuronal networks, stockpiling in China’s warehouses, and techniques of financialization, and as a component part in computer hardware and cable infrastructure. In studying the catalysing potential and transformative effects of copper, the chapter develops a method of spectrum thinking.
