Abstract and Keywords
This chapter focuses on prevention groups, including different perspectives on prevention (primary, secondary, tertiary, and social action prevention) and classification of prevention group-work process (guidance, counseling, therapy, and task). Advantages of using groups for prevention are outlined, including efficiency, familiarity of the format, large number of participants available to engage in social action, and therapeutic factors in the groups. Group dynamics and group leadership are described, and current examples of primary, secondary, and tertiary groups are provided.
