Abstract and Keywords
Complexity, uncertainty, and the speed of change are all increasing. The resulting challenge is not only to put in place knowledge discovery, application, and updating processes that improve performance today but also to make them dynamic so they constantly update and capture new knowledge that can be applied to drive performance and innovation for the future. To do so we need to learn both for performance and from performance. Our knowledge-management and learning systems have to operate in both areas of the known and the unknown. Together these two dimensions create four knowledge domains that greatly expand the knowledge-management and learning agenda. Not only do viable knowledge and learning systems have to function in all domains, they need to be dynamically linked so that: what is already known can be targeted and quickly transferred to those who need it to perform; knowledge-capture tools and focuses for capturing new learning are developed and identified; a culture of experimentation and processes for discovery is implemented; procedures and practices for validating, leveraging, and feeding new knowledge into the next performance cycle are established.
And this dynamic cycle has to go faster than the speed of change.
