Abstract and Keywords

This article traces the path of economic liberalism in Mexico. It first studies the political system of Mexico before market-oriented reforms were enacted, as well as its pre-reform economic challenges and economic development model. Next, it investigates the policy measures that earned Mexico its reputation as a “model reformer”, its political impact, and its political dynamics. The article ends with a discussion of the modern political and economic legacies of these market-oriented reforms.
