Abstract and Keywords

This article considers cultural diversity as one of the main objectives of urban planning. It provides an overview of schools of thought that inform planning approaches within multicultural settings, and explores some of the major issues and challenges which cultural diversity brings for planners and the planning profession within the context of democratic governance. The article also proposes a number of issues that must be addressed in future studies concerning planning in a culturally diverse society.
