Abstract and Keywords

This chapter explores the relationship between counseling psychology and working with older adults. A brief overview of the increasing expansion and core areas within the aging population is provided, with focus on aging in society, intergenerational family, and issues of diversity. Clinical work with older adults is addressed, highlighting later-life issues, as well as engaging in psychotherapy and assessment with older adults. In the final section, opportunities for counseling psychologists are outlined, with recommendations for the expansion of traditional areas for counseling psychology, as well as relatively newer areas such as quality of life, pain management, and end-of-life treatment.
