This chapter provides an introduction to international claims and compensation bodies. It discusses the motives and functions of claims commissions; how compensation commissions are distinct from national compensation commissions; and the structure of, and claims process utilized in modern compensation commissions. The chapter concludes with three trends in the use and structure of compensation commissions.
