Sport psychology is a multidisciplinary field that can be taught from multiple perspectives in psychology. It attracts students from many areas and majors. This chapter defines the scope of sport psychology, exercise psychology, and performance psychology and provides a guide for curriculum development and pedagogy when teaching a sport psychology course. A comprehensive guide to choosing the content for an introductory course in the undergraduate psychology curriculum is presented, addressing the areas of performance enhancement, social psychological factors in sport, developmental issues in sport, the psychology of exercise and health, and clinical sport psychology. Suggestions for a variety of teaching resources are offered, including syllabus guidelines, detailed examples of class assignments, potential textbooks, and a list of supplemental resources for instructors.
