Abstract and Keywords

The discipline of cultural psychology explores the ways in which cultural content shapes human minds, and in turn, how groups of human minds shape culture. The present article outlines major themes, joys, and challenges of teaching cultural psychology to undergraduates. It outlines the differences between cultural psychology, cross-cultural psychology, and multicultural psychology, and explains why cultural psychology (in any form) deserves to be a core course in the undergraduate psychology curriculum. The course allows students to explore deep questions about human nature and evolution and also provides rich theory and empirical evidence about sociocultural diversity. This article lists teaching resources, textbooks, and films that support the course and give examples of writing assignments that help students master big ideas. It also offers ways to teach about cultural difference to students without leading to cultural stereotyping.
