Abstract and Keywords

Chapter 19 provides considerations based on the field of mentoring to equip researchers with the tools for understanding and addressing the complexities of multimethod and mixed methods research. A synergistic mentoring framework is distinguished—using a humanistic and developmental supervision process borrowed from the helping professions—for the purposes of conceptualizing skills, goals, and interactive dialogue specific to mixed and multiple research methodology. Finally, the facilitative conditions involved in three potential phases of mentorship are described to help promote professional identity, critical decision-making skills, the art of perspective, and translational research dissemination for current and future multimethod and mixed methods researchers.
