Abstract and Keywords

This chapter deals with the dismantling of the royal burials in the Valley of the Kings which took place at the end of the New Kingdom, and resulted in the recycling of funerary goods and valuable materials and the reburial of the mummies in caches. Some of these collective burials were located within the Valley tombs, and others in different parts of the Theban necropolis. During the 21st Dynasty the caches were re-opened to admit additional mummies and to transfer others to different resting places. Some of the tombs in the Valley which were vacated in this process were reused for the burials of private individuals during the 22nd to 26th Dynasties.
