Abstract and Keywords

This chapter examines technological innovation in the Pacific Rim. It discusses theories of economic growth and the role of learning and innovation in growth. It analyzes the six different components of the “innovation economy” and evaluates their specific contributions to building innovative capacity. This chapter also explores the role of entrepreneurship and new firm entry in innovation and considers the Asian Pacific experience in commercialization, patent protection, financing, and other complexities of successful technology investment.
