Abstract and Keywords

This chapter examines the impact of technological innovation on the creative industries in the Pacific Rim. It discusses the role of digital technology as a “general purpose technology” and its relation to the ideas of “creative destruction” and describes the process of diffusion and adaptation of technologies and ideas. It analyzes business models and industry structures to situate the creative industries within broader ideas of national innovation systems and describes some key sites of creative industries in the region, including California, Japan, and South Korea.
